The Association of Government Accounts Organisations of Asia (AGAOA) was formed in February 2004. India is a founder member of AGAOA along with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Maldives. The Chairmanship of the association is held by the head of the Government Accounts Organization of one of the member countries, on rotation. Financial Comptroller General, Nepal is the current chairperson and Sri Lanka the treasurer of AGAOA.

The purpose of AGAOA is to promote ‘professional understanding and technical cooperation among member institutions through exchange of ideas and experiences in the fields covered by Government Accounts Organisations to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance’.

The Current Members of AGAOA are Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Maldives. INGAF is the secretariat of AGAOA since November 2007.

Apart from the annual AGAOA assembly, INGAF organized the first “Experience Sharing Program” in New Delhi on Sept. 10-13, 2007 where member countries shared their experiences and best practices on subjects like Public Financial Management, Accrual Accounting, Capacity Building, Risk Based Audit and Internal Controls. INGAF was also recognized as the premier training institute of the region and designated as the Regional Resource & Training Centre for AGAOA countries.

The AGAOA had requested the World Bank for the IDF Grant for the project on ‘Framework for Internal Control, Internal Audit and related Capacity Building’ for South Asian Countries. The proposal has been approved and INGAF will be implementing the same in the near future.
